The Large Hadron Collider at CERN has restarted operations in 2022 after a long shut-down. I will broadly discuss why this restart is a major step forward in the search for new elementary particles, as well as to comment on novel opportunities for the discovery of hypothetical long-lived particles predicted in theories beyond the Standard Model of particle physics.
