La neurociencia educativa es un campo de investigación interdisciplinario que busca traducir los hallazgos de la investigación sobre los mecanismos neuronales del aprendizaje a la práctica y la política educativa. El campo busca traducir los hallazgos neurocientíficos basados en la investigación en la regulación del comportamiento, la toma de decisiones, la recompensa, la empatía y el razonamiento moral a la educación.
La Escuela de Psicología invita a una conversación en el contexto del nuevo electivo “Educational Neuroscience”, en la que se revisarán los conceptos básicos y las temáticas principales que se enseñarán en este curso. Esta conversación no presupondrá experiencia neurocientífica previa de la audiencia. Además, las y los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de interactuar con el personal docente, hacer preguntas y proponer temas de interés para incluir en el trabajo del curso.

Dr. Astrid Schmied, neurocientífica en educación e investigadora del Science of Learning in Education Centre, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
Su investigación está enfocada en la evolución de la neurociencia educativa como campo académico; el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje de contenidos neuropsicológicos; la adquisición de habilidades académicas y cognitivas; y el desarrollo de trastornos específicos del aprendizaje (dislexia, discalculia y disgrafía). También participa en programas que promueven la ciencia pública, la divulgación científica y la política educativa y científica. Además, ha realizado investigaciones en varias instituciones, como oficinas gubernamentales, escuelas y universidades, y organizaciones sin fines de lucro, utilizando métodos conductuales, psicológicos y neurocientíficos. Sus prácticas e investigaciones pedagógicas se han expandido desde K-12 a estudiantes universitarios hasta adultos mayores, incluyendo intervenciones en espacios socialmente vulnerables y minorías.
Dr. Vicente Soto, neurocientífico cognitivo del Centro de Neurociencia Social y Cognitiva de la Escuela de Psicología UAI.
Su investigación se ha centrado en el uso de la electroencefalografía (EEG) para investigar los procesos sensoriales, emocionales y de toma de decisiones en humanos sanos y en poblaciones clínicas. Recientemente se ha centrado en desarrollar y aplicar metodologías de investigación en neurociencia cognitiva para hacer uso de técnicas avanzadas de neuroimagen móvil en entornos naturales. Ha recibido recientemente una subvención inicial de ANID para investigar el procesamiento visual natural durante las interacciones sociales entre humanos y robots.

Educational neuroscience is an interdisciplinary research field that seeks to translate research findings on neural mechanisms of learning to educational practice and policy. The field seeks to translate neuroscientific findings drawing on research in behavioral regulation, decision-making, reward, empathy and moral reasoning to education.
In this course presentation we will review the themes and topics to be taught in this course. As with the course, this conversation will assume no previous neuroscientific expertise from the audience. Additionally, students will have the chance to interact with the teaching staff and to ask questions and propose themes of interest to be included in the coursework.

Dr. Astrid Schmied is an educational neuroscientist and research scientist at the Science of Learning in Education Centre, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
Astrid’s research interests include the evolution of educational neuroscience as academic field; the teaching and learning process of neuropsychological content; the acquisition of academic and cognitive skills; and, the development of specific learning disorders (dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia). She also engages in programs that promote public science, scientific outreach, and education and science policy. Furthermore, she has conducted research at various institutions, such as governmental offices, schools and universities, and non-profits, utilizing behavioral, psychological, and neuroscientific methods. Her pedagogical practices and investigations have expanded from K-12 to university students to older adults, including interventions in socially vulnerable spaces and minorities.
Dr. Vicente Soto is a cognitive neuroscientist at the Center for Social and Cognitive Neuroscience of the School of Psychology at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez.
His research has focused on using electroencephalography (EEG) to investigate sensory, emotional and decision-making processes in healthy humans as well as clinical populations. He has recently focused on developing and applying cognitive neuroscience research methodologies to make use of advanced mobile neuroimaging techniques in natural environments. He has reacently recieved a ANID starting grant to investigate natural visual processing during social interactions between humans and robots.
