El Doctorado en Ingeniería de Sistemas Complejos (DISC) invita a la charla: “Variational estimates for the speed propagation of fronts in a nonlinear diffusive Fisher equation”
Abstract: In this talk, I will examine the problem of front propagation in a nonlinear diffusive Fisher equation. In the current case, the nonlinear diffusivity models the sharp front propagation in glassy polymers. This problem differs substantially from the problem of front propagation in the usual Fisher equation which was solved by Kolmogorov, Petrovsky, and Piskounov in 1937. Although, in general, no exact result is known we use a variational approach, introduced 25 years ago by Benguria and Depassier, to estimate the front speed and compare it with direct time-dependent numerical simulations showing a good agreement. This Pandemia-era work is an e-collaboration (no real meeting was realized) with María Cristina Depassier and Rafael Benguria from the Universidad Católica.
